Itinerary

Day Trip to Christian and Islamic Old Cairo

Our agents will warmly welcome you with our Meet and Greet service, holding a sign of your name at El Sokhna Port upon your cruise ship arrival.
Then, you will be transferred by an air-conditioned vehicle to Cairo, a scenic drive of approximately 3 hours, with a stop if needed to rest.

Your exploration begins in Old Cairo, also known as Christian Coptic Cairo, a place of profound spiritual significance. It was here that the Holy Family sought refuge, their presence still palpably felt. Despite their brief stay, the Governor of Fustat, enraged by the falling of idols at Jesus’ approach, sought to kill the Child. They found sanctuary in a cave, above which the Church of Abu Serga (St Sergius) was later built. This area, including the entire Fort of Babylon, is a revered pilgrimage destination for not only Egyptians but Christians worldwide. A sense of piety and devotion permeates the district.

Here, you’ll have the opportunity to step inside the Church of Abu-Sergah and St. Barbara, the Hanging Church, and the ancient Ben Ezra Synagogue. After exploring these sacred sites, you’ll be treated to a delicious lunch.

Your journey continues to The Citadel of Cairo, home to the city’s most famous mosque - Mohamed Ali’s Alabaster Mosque. From there, you’ll visit Khan El Khalili and one of Egypt’s oldest streets, “El Moez Le Din Allah” Street. This historic street is a living testament to Cairo’s rich past, with various monuments lining both sides, including Bab El Fetouh and Bab El Nasr.

Venture towards the northern side of the city, in El Darb El Asfar, the oldest quarter of Islamic Cairo. Here, you’ll visit a plethora of monuments such as the Barqouq Mosque & School in Nahassen, El Aqmar Mosque, the Mosque of El Saleh Tala, The Blue Mosque, the Dome, and the Hospital & School of Qalawoon.

As the evening draws in, your guide will escort you back to your cruise at the port of El Sokhna. This unforgettable journey, steeped in history and spirituality, awaits you with Sun Pyramids Tours. Embark on this adventure and create memories that will last a lifetime!
