Then, you will be transferred by an air-conditioned vehicle to Cairo, a scenic drive of approximately 1 hour.
Your adventure begins in Old Cairo, also known as Christian Coptic Cairo, a place of profound spiritual significance. It is here that the Holy Family sought refuge, their presence still palpably felt. Despite their brief stay, the impact was profound, leading to the construction of the Church of Abu Serga (St Sergius) above the cave where they took shelter.
This area, along with the entire Fort of Babylon district, is a revered pilgrimage site for Christians worldwide, radiating an aura of deep devotion and piety.
You’ll have the opportunity to step inside the Church of Abu-Sergah and St. Barbara, marvel at the architectural wonder of the hanging church, and explore the ancient Ben Ezra Synagogue. After immersing yourself in these historical treasures, you’ll be treated to a delicious lunch, a perfect interlude before the next leg of your journey.
Your exploration continues at The Citadel of Cairo, home to the renowned Mohamed Ali’s mosque, also known as the Alabaster Mosque. From there, you’ll visit Khan El Khalili and stroll down one of Egypt’s oldest streets, “El Moez Le Din Allah” Street. This street, a living testament to historical Cairo, is lined with various monuments such as Bab El Fetouh and Bab El Nasr.
Venturing towards the northern side of the city, in El Darb El Asfar, you’ll discover the most ancient quarter of Islamic Cairo monuments. Here, you’ll visit the Barqouq mosque & School in Nahassen, El Aqmar Mosque, the Mosque of El Saleh Tala, The Blue Mosque, the Dome, the Hospital & School of Qalawoon, and more.
