Day 1: Check in the Cruise - Visit Luxor East Bank Attractions

Karnak Temple

Karnak Temple, located in Luxor, is the largest religious complex in ancient Egypt, dedicated primarily to the god Amun. Spanning over 2,000 years of construction, it features massive columns, intricate carvings, and towering obelisks. The awe-inspiring Great Hypostyle Hall, with its 134 giant columns, is a highlight of the site. Karnak served as a central place of worship and political power, hosting grand festivals like the Opet Festival.

 

Luxor Temple

Luxor Temple, is an elegant ancient temple dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship and the gods Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. Built primarily by Pharaoh Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, the temple features massive statues, intricate carvings, and majestic colonnades. Unlike Karnak, Luxor Temple was more focused on rituals of divine kingship. During the annual Opet Festival, it was linked to Karnak by a sacred avenue of sphinxes.

The most known tombs are King Tutmosis I, Tutmosis III, Tut-Ankh-Amon, King Ramssess VI, King Mrenptah and AmonhotepII.

 

Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, located at Deir el-Bahari near Luxor, is a stunning mortuary temple honoring Egypt's first female pharaoh. Built into towering limestone cliffs, its terraced design blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The temple features intricate carvings depicting Hatshepsut’s reign, her divine birth, and her expedition to the Land of Punt.

 

Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, standing guard at the entrance of his long-lost mortuary temple near Luxor. Each statue towers about 60 feet high and depicts the seated pharaoh with his hands resting on his knees. Dating back to around 1350 BC, these iconic monuments once emitted mysterious "singing" sounds in the morning, attributed to rising temperatures and ancient myths.

Built between 237 and 57 BC during the Ptolemaic period, it features impressive pylons, intricate carvings, and a sacred sanctuary. Located in Edfu, between Luxor and Aswan, the temple showcases the mythological battle between Horus and Seth, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Its grandeur and detailed inscriptions offer a vivid glimpse into ancient Egyptian religion and rituals.

Philae Temple

Originally built during the Ptolemaic era (380–362 BC), it showcases intricate carvings, massive columns, and a serene island setting. Rescued from flooding during the construction of the Aswan High Dam, the temple was relocated to Agilkia Island in a remarkable UNESCO-led project.
