Itinerario
Day 1: Discover the Wonders of Tanis and Bubastis
Your adventure begins in the morning when our expert Egyptologist guide escorts you on a short drive to the biblical site of Tanis, also known as Zoan. Located in the ancient land of Goshen, this is where Moses was found amidst the delta marshes. Once the capital of the New Kingdom, Tanis is home to the ruins of the temples of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.
Next, we journey to Bubastis, or Per-Bast, a two-hour drive from Cairo. This was the cult center of the feline goddess Bast. The area also houses remnants of temples dedicated to King Teti and Pepi the First. After a day filled with exploration, we will escort you back to your hotel in Cairo.
Day 2: Experience the Unique Sights of Cairo
Our second day takes us to the renowned Cave Church of St. Simon in Cairo. Carved into the Moqattam Mountain are seven cave churches, with the Monastery of St. Simon the Tanner being the largest, boasting an arena that can seat 20,000.
We then pass by the Garbage City in Cairo, located in the local neighborhood of Manshiyat Naser. Its inhabitants have been Cairo’s unofficial sanitation crew for decades. They recycle the city’s compostable waste products, using them for their manufacturing.
Our journey continues to the City of the Dead, an Islamic necropolis and cemetery located below the Mokattam Hills in southeastern Cairo.
Please note, for safety reasons, we will be passing through the Garbage City without getting out of the car due to the area’s conditions.
