The Giza Pyramids Complex, is home to Egypt's most iconic ancient wonders, built over 4,500 years ago. This complex includes the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with the legendary Great Sphinx. Originally constructed as royal tombs, these monuments showcase the engineering prowess of ancient Egyptians.
The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu, is the largest and oldest of the three pyramids in the Giza Complex. Built around 2580–2560 BCE, it originally stood at 146 meters (now 138 meters due to erosion) and was constructed from over 2 million limestone blocks. As the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, it served as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu and symbolizes ancient Egypt's architectural mastery.
The Great Sphinx of Giza, stands guard near the pyramids in Giza. Carved from a single limestone block, this colossal statue—about 66 feet high and 240 feet long—features the body of a lion with the head of a pharaoh, believed to represent King Khafre. Estimated to date back over 4,500 years, the Sphinx symbolizes strength and wisdom.
The Valley Temple, is an ancient funerary temple connected to Pharaoh Khafre's pyramid. Built from massive limestone and granite blocks, this well-preserved structure once served as part of the mummification process for royalty. Its interior features large columns, alabaster floors, and statues of Khafre.
